Coach Lance Meyer
The Green Room Art Studio

Lance Meyer, also known as “Coach,” has worn a variety of hats during the past 26 years. With a bachelor's degree from Wisconsin Lutheran College and a Master of Science degree from Concordia University Wisconsin as well as a Ministry Degree from Martin Luther College, he has been a principal, teacher, coach, minister of the Gospel, youth leader, and athletic director.  He has served at New Berlin Eisenhower Middle and High School; Immanuel Lutheran, in Waukegan, Illinois; St. Paul’s and Bethany Lutheran in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and in Milwaukee at Atonement Lutheran, HOPE Christian High School, and St. Marcus Lutheran.

In addition to his other roles, Lance is also an artist. Starting out as a boy with a set of Prang watercolors, he has been perfecting his craft for many years.  In 2002 Lance and his mother, Kay Pleuss Meyer, were students of artist Donna Brown of the Penninsula Art School.  Since then, he has gone on to produce a wide variety of paintings, mostly in watercolor but also in acrylic and oil.

After many years of intense ministry in the city of Milwaukee, Lance suffered a significant life-altering health issue in 2020 that required a leave of absence.  During this time, he pursued his passions of gospel ministry, golf, and art.  Over the past year Lance has done a number of golf course paintings, portraits, and Bible scenes in watercolor, as well as some pottery and mixed media. In early 2021 he also returned to ministry, and now serves part-time with a City for God.

Lance started the Green Room Art Studio (GRAS) ministries in  August of 2020. In the Spring of 2021, he entered an art competition for the first time. He was awarded an Honorable Mention for “The Real McCoy” in the Cambridge WRAP.  Lance also exhibited in the prestigious Hardy Gallery in Door County in the summer of 2021.

Lance’s paintings are  very vibrant,  boldly tell a story, and exude his faith in His Savior Jesus.   Like his personality, they are full of interesting quirks and many “happy” mistakes, as well as strokes of bright colors and confidence! Lance often takes on projects that few venture to even try.

Forward in Christ

A health scare prompts a man to make changes in his life, resulting in new ministry opportunities to share Jesus’ love.

Coach Lance Meyer is a walking billboard for the love of Jesus. Whether he’s introducing young men from Kingdom Prep Lutheran High School, Milwaukee, Wis., to the game of golf, painting commissioned watercolor portraits for Mother’s Day, or sharing wisdom from years of ministry experience, no one in Lance’s circle questions for whom he’s doing it all. His heart beats for his Savior.

Lance has walked down a long and difficult road to where he is today. In 2020, a personal health crisis moved Lance to take a big step back and have an honest look at his life. He ended up dropping everything to start his own youth ministry program. These days, you might find him recording podcasts, leading devotions at schools around Milwaukee, or teaching kids how to paint. But how did Lance get there?
